Michael Spencer joined Scripps Mesa Fireworks in 2014 as a volunteer on the fundraising team. At the time, the committee consisted of three people.
By 2016, the president at the time needed to step down as she was a volunteer on several other organizations, and Michael assumed the role of president for Scripps Mesa Fireworks.
Michael moved to Mira Mesa specifically because of the Independence Day activities and the “Small Town America” feel they created. Because of this, he is specifically pleased to have been able to keep the Fireworks show running, including surviving through the “2020 to 2022 Sadness” when the show seemed to be on its last legs.

This is the first photo of a Scripps Mesa Fireworks show taken by Michael in 2010.
And a photo of the last shell in 2010.
