Mira Mesa has been celebrating Independence Day with fireworks for more than 50 years. We’re not stopping now.
America’s 250th birthday gave us an opportunity to look back at where we’ve been.
Now it’s time to look forward.
As we begin America’s second 250 years, Scripps Mesa Fireworks is kicking off our 2027 fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $35,000 to bring another spectacular fireworks celebration to Mira Mesa.
But there’s something even more important than the fundraising goal.
We’re looking for more people to join us.
Mira Mesa Has Its Own Independence Day Tradition
Independence Day in Mira Mesa isn’t just one event.
We’re creating a weekend of community celebration.
July 3 — Mira Mesa Fireworks
July 4 — Mira Mesa Independence Day Parade, organized by a separate community committee
Different events. Different organizers. One community coming together to celebrate Independence Day.
And that’s something worth preserving.
For more than five decades, generations of Mira Mesa residents have gathered to watch the sky light up on Independence Day.
We believe that tradition deserves a future.
Entering America’s Second 250 Years
In 2026, our country celebrated 250 years.
That milestone gave us a chance to think about the history that brought us here.
But 250 years isn’t an ending.
It’s a beginning.
We’re now entering the second 250 years of America.
What will the next 250 years look like?
We don’t know.
But we do know that communities like Mira Mesa will continue to create their own traditions, bring neighbors together and give families memories they’ll carry with them.
That’s what these fireworks are really about.
Our 2027 Goal: $35,000
It takes a lot to put on a fireworks show.
There are fireworks, permits, security, cleanup, logistics and countless other expenses that most people never see.
That’s why we’re setting a $35,000 fundraising goal for 2027.
But we’re not starting by simply asking everyone to donate.
We’re starting by asking people to join us.
We Need Your Ideas
One of the biggest things Scripps Mesa Fireworks needs right now is more people with fresh ideas.
Maybe you’ve thought of a fundraiser we haven’t tried.
Maybe you have connections with local businesses.
Maybe you have experience with sponsorships.
Maybe you’re an event planner, marketer, social media expert or community organizer.
Maybe you love talking to people and building relationships.
Or maybe you don’t have any special experience at all.
That’s okay.
You care about Mira Mesa. That’s a pretty good place to start.
We’re looking for people who want to help brainstorm, volunteer, reach out to the community, organize fundraising opportunities and help shape the future of this celebration.
Come Be Part of the Team
Our 2027 campaign kickoff meeting will give our community an opportunity to:
- Look back at the 2026 fireworks from the President’s perspective
- Hear a Treasurer’s report and financial update
- Discuss what worked—and what we can improve
- Plan fundraising and community events for 2026–2027
- Identify new sponsorship and fundraising opportunities
- Talk about ways to grow our volunteer team
- Share ideas for reaching more of Mira Mesa
- Discuss additional opportunities to strengthen the celebration
And most importantly, we want to hear from you.
Bring an Idea. Bring a Neighbor. Join the Team.
Our goal is $35,000.
Our vision is much bigger.
We want to build a stronger team, develop new fundraising ideas and make sure Mira Mesa continues to have an Independence Day celebration that belongs to the entire community.
Because traditions don’t continue by themselves.
People make them happen.
So as we begin America’s second 250 years, we’re asking Mira Mesa:
Will you help us write the next chapter?
🤝 2027 — A bigger community effort to keep the tradition alive
Let’s make the next 50 years spectacular.
