At Scripps Mesa Fireworks, one of our favorite traditions each year is seeing our community come together to celebrate Independence Day. This year, as excitement builds for America’s 250th Anniversary in 2026, we invited local students to help become part of that tradition through our 2026 T-Shirt Design Contest — and the response was incredible.
We are proud to announce that the winning design was created by Rishank from Ericson Elementary School!
Rishank’s artwork beautifully captures the patriotic spirit of America, the creativity of our community, and the excitement of fireworks celebrations that generations of Mira Mesa families have enjoyed for more than 50 years. His design will become the official commemorative t-shirt artwork for the 2026 Scripps Mesa Fireworks celebration.
This year’s contest brought in nearly 200 entries from students representing almost every school in Mira Mesa and Scripps Ranch. From elementary through high school, students submitted thoughtful, colorful, and inspiring artwork celebrating:
- America’s 250th birthday
- Freedom and patriotism
- Community pride
- Family traditions
- Fireworks and celebration
Our judges had an incredibly difficult task choosing a winner because the level of talent and creativity was outstanding across the board.
More than anything, this contest reminded us what Scripps Mesa Fireworks is truly about: bringing our community together. Every drawing represented a young person excited to contribute to a neighborhood tradition that has united families, friends, and neighbors for generations.

As we prepare for our 2026 fireworks celebration — marking both America’s 250th Anniversary and over 50 years of fireworks in Mira Mesa — we are proud to continue being A Neighborhood Celebration!
